Arrive-Paro drive Thimphu
Arrival Paro by Druk Airways. If you are
lucky, you will have glorious view of the
snowcapped Himalayas. The remarkable and
steep descent into the Paro valley is an
awe-inspiring beginning to an adventure of a
lifetime. After visa formalities and
collection of baggage, you will meet the
Bhutanese representative from Bhutan
Journeys, who will receive you and take you
to Paro town for exploring and lunch at one
of the local restaurants in Paro. Then we
will take a 2-hour leisurely drive towards
the Capital of Bhutan, Thimphu. Enroute you
will view Tachogang monastery, “the temple
of excellent horse” built by Thangthong
Gyalpo (Iron chain builder in Bhutan) before
reaching to Chunzom (confluence). At the
confluence of Paro – Thimphu River, stop for
vehicle registration, you will see three
forms of chortens in different styles i.e.
Nepalese, Tibetan and Bhutanese. We drive
following the Thimphu River upwards passing
through several villages. Upon reaching
Thimphu, you will be taken to one of the
best hotels of Thimphu, Hotel Druk. This
hotel is centrally located and you can, on
foot, go around the commercial
establishments for shopping. After check ing
in at the hotel, you will free time to
stroll in the main street. We shall have the

Days 02 : |
Thimphu valley sightseeing
After your breakfast you will be visiting
the following places of cultural interest.
The Folk and Heritage Museum: lets you
experience the Bhutanese way of living.
The Arts and Craft Institute: a vocational
training institute where the art of
painting, woodcraft and sculpturing are
taught to students with the objective of
preserving the rich heritage while at the
same time producing skilled man power.
The National Library: This repository houses
ancient religious and historical texts.
Bhutan Post (Post Office): As the sole
postal organization of Bhutan, Bhutan Post
offers you the finest collections of stamps
and post cards. You can purchase the finest
stamps and cards as a souvenir
You will have lunch at one of the local
restaurant in town. Afternoon you will visit
following places.
The Drubthob Gompa Nunnery: the nuns
enrolled here sport short hair and play a
vital role in the religious affairs of the
local community. After your visit here you
can drive up to the viewpoint of Thimphu
valley and en route visit the mini zoo to
see the national animal “Takin”.
The Memorial Chorten: built in honor of the
late King of Bhutan. Finally you can also
visit the Handicraft Emporium, and other
local handicraft shops to go through the
textiles of Bhutan. Overnight: Hotel |
Days 03 : |
Thimphu – Wangdue
Today in the morning visit to the Textile
Museum: displays the fine art of weaving
from various regions of Bhutan. You will
also be able to see the different fabrics
used for this art. We will also be
conducting a brief audiovisual program on
textiles of Bhutan.
The Indigenous Hospital: The hospital
manufactures traditional medicines from
various raw materials collected from varying
altitudes within the country. We will also
visit the Bhutanese paper factory before
leaving for Wangdue. The drive to Wangdue
takes about 3 hours, and the route passes
through the horticulture centre in Yusipang
before reaching the 10,000ft Dochula pass.
On a clear day you will be able to see a
spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayas
from this pass. The pass is also dotted by
many colorful prayer flags and chortens.
Your lunch will be at the Dochula cafeteria.
After lunch, descend through the forest of
rhododendrons and magnolia. After several
stops on the way, you pass the village of
Lumitsawa; Thinleygang and reach the fertile
valley of Lobesa. Another 20 minutes’ drive
will take you to your hotel. If time permits
(after reaching your hotel), you can take a
half an hour hike from your hotel, to a
typical Bhutanese farm village in “Rinchengang”.

Days 04 : |
Wangdue – Trongsa
This morning drive on through the Wangdue
town and visit the Wangdue dzong. Drive on
through the tropical vegetation to Nobding
and over the Pele la pass (11,000ft).
Throughout your trip you will come across
the beautiful sceneries of rural Bhutan,
with scattered settlements far from the
road. Picnic lunch will be served enroute.
Descend through the open meadows and valley
of yak herders and several other villages
via the Chendebji Chorten. Another 2 hours
drive will take you to your hotel in Trongsa.

Days 05 : |
Trongsa – Bumthang
After your breakfast visit the massive and
architecturally the most impressive dzong of
the country “The Trongsa Dzong”. The dzong
has played a vital role in shaping the
political history of the country. Also visit
the Ta dzong, an ancient watchtower. After
an early lunch, we will drive on for the
Bumthang valley over the Yotung la pass
(11,800ft). En route visit the Yathra
weaving centre at Zugney. Upon reaching and
checking in at you hotel in Bumthang, we
will have a lecture on Bhutanese history
prior to the 21st century. Evening you will
have free time to stroll around. |
Days 06 : |
Bumthang valley
Today’s sightseeing in Bumthang includes the
visit to:
Jambay Lhakhang: built by the Tibetan King
Songtsen Gampo in the 7th Century.
Kyichu Lhakhang: legend has it that the body
imprint of Guru Rimpoche was left behind
while meditating in a cave in this temple.
Tamshing Monastery: We will take a gradual
hike to visit this monastery built by Terton
Pema Lingpa.
Lunch will be served at your hotel. There
will be an audiovisual program on Gross
National Happiness (GNH). Overnight: Hotel. |
Days 07 : |
Bumthang valley (Excursion to Ura
valley)
Depart for an excursion to Ura valley over
Shethrang la (11,600ft). While in Ura we
will visit the Ura monastery and take a walk
through the village. Late in the afternoon,
there will be a lecture on the Bhutanese
System of Governance. Evening at leisure. |
Days 08 : |
Bumthang Valley (Hike to Thangbi
valley)
Sightseeing in Bumthang valley. Drive on to
the north of the valley to Tokto Zam and
take a 30 minutes hike to visit the Thangbi
Monastery. This excursion gives you an
opportunity to get close to nature.
Afternoon, visit the Jakar Dzong (The castle
of White Bird), which now houses the
administrative center and the religious
institute for monks. We will end the day
with an audiovisual programme on Bhutan, in
the evening. Overnight at hotel. |
Days 09 : |
Bumthang – Punakha.
We will take an 8 hours long drive to
Punakha, via Wangdue. Packed lunch will be
served at Chendebji Chorten. Upon reaching
at Punakha, you will check in at your hotel.

Days 10 : |
Punakha
You morning’s trip will include a visit to
the Punakha Dzong, and a stroll through the
town. After lunch, there will be a
demonstration on the Bhutanese national
dress (Gho for Men and Kira for Women) and
an open discussion forum with your Bhutanese
trip leader. Evening you will have a leisure
time. Overnight at hotel. |
Days 11 : |
Punakha – Thimphu
We will start early today towards Thimphu,
with an enroute visit to the Chimi Lhakhang
and drive to Thimphu. Late afternoon, we
will attend a cultural show performed by the
students of the Institute of National
Performing Arts. This show is arranged only
for the group that has not had an
opportunity to witness a festival in Bhutan.

Days 12 : |
Thimphu – Paro
This morning depart for Paro and enroute
visit the 1st dzong built in Bhutan “The
Simtokha Dzong”. The dzong now houses a
religious institute for the monks.
Upon reaching Paro, we will visit the
National Museum and the Paro Rinpung Dzong.
The Paro Dzong may be familiar to people who
watched Bertolucci’s film ‘The Little
Buddha’. A lecture on Bhutan- 21st Century:
How to hold on to its policy of preservation
of rich heritage against modern influences
will end today’s day. |
Days 13 : |
Paro Valley
Full day at Paro. Early morning drive till
the road head to Ramthangkha, from where we
start our hike to the Taktsang monastery
(Tiger’s Nest). Visitors are permitted to
hike up to the view point from where they
can see the monastery hanging on a cliff.
Legend has it that Guru Rimpoche flew from
Easter Bhutan on a tigress, bringing
Buddhist teachings and meditated here in
this cliff. This is one of the most
venerated and sacred of all Buddhist sights
around the world. Lunch served at Taktsang
cafeteria. Walk downhill to the road head
and drive on to Drugyel Dzong (now in ruins)
and enroute visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, built
in the 7th century by Songtsen Gampo, which
denotes the spread and emergence of Buddhism
in the country. |
