Trip Overview

The village of Bungmati and Khokana, a complex of cultural amalgamation is just 10 Kilometers from Kathmandu. These small Newari villages in the Lalitpur district of Nepal dates back to the 6th century but the prominent artifacts are of since the medieval period of Nepal. Though these villages are close to Nepal's capital: Kathmandu, they are least influenced by modernity and so bears a huge capability of accepting cultural tourists.

On this full-day excursion, one can admire traditional architecture along with the spiritual charm of Rudrayani Temple, Sikali Mai Temple, Karya Binayak Temple, and Rato Machhindranath Temple. Khokana is also famous for local mustard oil too. You will see local peoples enjoying their own traditional lifestyle, sitting in common courtyards, weaving, chatting, working and assisting each other. Drive To Khokana

By 8 in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel and drive to the village of Khokana. Khokana is about 8 km from Kathmandu and takes about 30 minutes to reach there.

Explore Khokana and Bungmati Village

For Newari culture, tradition, and architecture, this is an open museum. Visit old houses, Rudrayani Temple, local mustard oil industry, masterful woodcarvers and sculptors, Rato Machhindranath Temple, Karya Binayak Temple, and the entire surrounding.

Bungmati is the birthplace of Rato Machhindranath and so locally made a large Shikhara style temple there. He spends half of the year in Bungmati and rests in Patan. The annual festival of Rato Machhindranath Jatra is probably the longest in Nepal. Capture the unique livelihood of locals in your camera and memory.

Drive back to Kathmandu

After about 4-5 hours’ tour of these cultural heritages, we will head back to Kathmandu. Bungmati to Kathmandu is about 10 km and takes half an hour by a drive.
