Overview
Chitwan National Park is a land unlike anywhere else in Nepal. Situated on the very northern plains of India, this low-level elevation (about 60 meters) is home to Asian jungle animals including wild elephant herds, the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger and the endangered Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. There are hundreds of bird specials, reptiles and other wildlife that abound in this natural habitat.
Nepal has been successful in expanding the number of the wild tigers in its jungles. Nepal’s conversation efforts have found ways to allow the local people and the animals to live together in a positive synergy that blends nature and civilization in harmony. Trekking Mart is pleased to offer this popular four-day Chitwan Tour of the jungle. Chitwan National Park is a quite full of noise. Hundreds of birds sing their repertoire from the treetops. Peacocks let out their loud calls that echo across the jungle. The rivers run wild with two types of crocodiles as animal herds come down to its life-giving waters to drink.
Trekking Mart takes you deep into the jungle with a jeep jungle safari. See a Tharu cultural dance program and raft down the Rapti River for an amazing adventure. Take a jungle walk to get a feel of the incredible depth of the jungle. The Chitwan Four-Day Jungle Package opens up a new world for you as you appreciate the unique heritage of the Himalayas. Itinerary
Our luxury bus takes us from your hotel after breakfast to your resort in Chitwan National Park. The journey takes around six hours as you make your way out of the Kathmandu Valley and follow along the turbulent Trisuli River. We are heading south to reach the village of Sauhaha, the gateway to Chitwan National Park. We take our lunch here and rest in our rooms or if you want, explore the handicrafts and shops of the village. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Tharu cultural program with the famed stick dance.
Note: There is also direct flight connection between Kathmandu and Chitwan. If you want fly to and from Chitwan.
We rise early at the sounds of the birds singing in the jungle before sunrise. We catch a quick breakfast before going on a jeep safari deep into the jungle. Jeep is the best way to penetrate the jungle as it covers the most territory in a short period of time. The guides know areas where to find the jungle animals. While we may not see a Royal Bengal Tiger (they are elusive), there is an excellent chance of seeing the Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. There are hundreds of species of birds to see as well as many more jungle animals as we cross cross the park.
We return for lunch and in the afternoon, we take a rafting trip on the Rapti River where we can see the animals coming down to its life-giving waters to drink. We will see two types of crocodiles – the marsh muggar and the endangered gharial. The gharial looks mean with its long snout of sharp teeth, but good news: he doesn’t like you. Instead, he’s a fish eater. After dinner, watch a sunset over the Rapti River and the red rays cast their long shadows over the jungle.
After breakfast, we will visit the elephant breeding grounds where we often can see baby elephants. It is part of the Nepal conservation efforts to increase the wild herds of the region. We will also see a Tharu village. The Tharu's are the traditional people of the Terai region with a very distinct culture.
After breakfast, we leave Chitwan and begin our scenic drive toward Kathmandu. Enjoy the changing landscapes along the way as we travel through the countryside, rivers, hills, and local settlements. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Note: You can continue to Kathmandu or other preferred destinations such as Pokhara, Lumbini, or other destinations according to your travel plans.
