Itinerary

Day 1

The sacred journey to the most sacred mountains in the world begins before your plane touches down in the legendary city of Kathmandu. You will be met by your representative of Trekking Mart and taken to your hotel to rest from your flight. In the evening, enjoy a Trekking Mart tradition: a welcome dinner with authentic Nepali food and cultural program.

Day 2

After breakfast, journey to Budhanilkantha to see the sleeping Vishnu reclining on the cosmic sea. This giant black stone (5 meter) is not native to the Kathmandu Valley and dates back to the time of the Licchavi dynasty. In the afternoon, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square with nearly 60 ancient temples, the old Royal Palace and the home of the Kumari, the famed living goddess of Nepal. There can be time to visit Pilgrim Bookstore, the premier bookstore with the finest selection of Hindu books.

Day 3

After breakfast, we leave for three places today. We will visit Kailashnath Mahadev Statue, 20 miles east of Kathmandu. Completed in 2006, it stands 44 meters in height and is made of copper, zinc and concrete. Lord Shiva stands overlooking the valley with his trishula as guardian. Many sacred lingam stones and places to worship. From there travel to the Newari village of Panauti where we find the oldest existing temple in the Kathmandu Valley of Indreshwor Temple, the source of the mystical Lilawati River. The temple dates back to 1294 AD. Three rivers come together at this temple complex. Panauti is under consideration to becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We will also visit Shree Pancha Laxmi Mandir temple, the only temple in the world dedicated to all five manifestations of the goddess Laxmi. This is a new temple complex and is massive. It is built on the style of South India and has the second largest bell in the Kathmandu Valley.

Day 4

We travel outside of the Kathmandu Valley to the cable car that takes up to the top of the high hill of Manakamana. This cable car was the first in Nepal and was done to bring pilgrims and animals to the top for puja. Great views of the Himalayas along the way. The cable car crosses the Trisuli River and then up the mountain to the temple where you can also bring animals for sacrifice in special cable cars. Wonderful restaurants on top of the hill. It’s an all-day activity as you make your way south along the river. The journey there is also impressive as you leave the Kathmandu Valley for great mountain views as well as the raging Trisuli River below you. Return to your hotel for the evening.

Day 5

The Hindu Pilgrimage Tour comes to a close today as you prepare to leave for home.
