Jomsom Muktinath Trekking - 10 days

Jomsom Trek

Jomsom at the height of 2710 meters is an administrative and commercial center accommodating several government offices and situated in an attractive backdrop of towering peaks of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri with an airfield operating regular flights to and fro from Pokhara to this spot.
Jomsom region is inhabited by the Thakalis, residing in nearby villages of Marpha and Tukuche and, who are renowned for their traditional trading skills. They occupy an important village on the traditional trade route between the Genetic plains of India and Tibet.
The views from Jomsom are enchanting due to the reflection of Golden rays of rising and setting sun in Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges. The entire panorama is filled with a golden, glittering light, forming a supernatural contrast with the sterile, black and dry mountains of the surrounding Kali Gandaki valley.
Muktinath at the height of 3,800 meters is one of the most important pilgrimage center for both Hindus and Buddhists. The most prominent shrine is the Vishnu temple where 108 sprouts pour forth water considered to be holy from uniquely fashioned shape of cow heads. This water is channeled from a stream running above the temple built in Tibetan style and contains huge brass idols of Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma, and Kali. Nearby is another temple where water gushes out of a rock and this water is considered even more holy. There is also a Buddhist Gompa (monastery), and a pagoda-type temple dedicated to Jwala Mayi (goddess of fire).  This temple shielded by curtains has the existence of outlets for natural gas that oozes from the rock and feeds the temple flame.
Muktinath and its high valley are located in the Mustang Bhote region. The climate and landscape here are similar to those of the Tibetan Plateau since it is situated in the rain shadow of the Greater Himalayas.
