The tour starts from Bhutanese township Paro and prolong to capital Thimphu and Ponakha. In Paro we visit Ta-Dzong, Rinpung Dzong and other historic monuments. Next day, drive to Thimphu. While there, we will explore King’s memorial chorten, temple, heritage museum and others. We will enjoy the anonymous architect of Punakha Dzong in Punakha. Our trip ends with drive to Paro and fly back to your onward destination.
Day 01: Arrival at Paro (2,200m)
Arrive in Bhutan and transfer to hotel in Paro. The flight to Bhutan is spectacular with the great Himalayan peak appearing on and after the others on the life side. Visit the Ta-Dzong built in the 17th century, as watchtower to defend Rinpung Dzong below. This Dzong was later converted into the National Museum in 1967, and is filled with antique Tankapaintings, textiles, weapons and amour. Drive to the Rinpung Dzong, built in 17th century to defend the valley against the Tibetan invaders. The Dzong is now used as an administrativecenter and school for monks. Overnight in Paro.
Day 02: Paro to Thimphu (2,350m)
Visit Drukgyel Dzong, which was built by Shabdrung in 1647, to commemorate his history over the Tibetans in 1644. Behind the Fort if weather is clear, you can view the looming majestic peak of Mt.Jhomolhari (7,326M). Along the way see Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo. Afternoon drive to Thimphu (65kms / 2:30 hours) visit to the Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and the Central Monastic body, includes the summer residence. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 03: Thimphu to Punakha
Visit the National Memorial Chorten built in honour of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and the Dupthop Lakhang one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan. Then visit the National Library, stocked with Manuscripts, painting school at this school learn the traditional techniques of drawing and painting, Traditional Medicine Hospital where traditional medicines are prepares according to the ancient practices. After lunch drive to Punakha via Duchula pass (altitude 3050 metres). From here on a clear day one can see superb view of the highest peaks in Bhutan, such as Gangkar Puensum, Table Mountain, Jeje Khang, Masakhang and Gangchey Ta. Drive on to Punakha, which is the old capital of Bhutan and the present winter capital for Central Monks. Visit the Punakha Dzong (opened when the monks are in Thimphu).
Day 04: Punakha - Thimphu to Paro
Early morning leave from Punakha to Thimphu. When you arrive visit Changangkha Lhakhang. The temple built in 15th Century. After lunch free for shopping and drive back to Paro.
Day 05: Departure
After early breakfast at your hotel, drive to airport for departure flight to your onward destination.
